This is a copy of Gover Flink's Bearded Man in a Velvet Cap. (yes, a Rembrandt student). Govert Flink is Rembrandts' most well-known student. Rembrandt and his students all painted in similar styles, that to this day many experts cannot tell which were painted by Rembrandt and which by a student. The guild required that any student selling a painting would have to have it signed by the master of the school. Hence, every painting by any Rembrandt student was signed by Rembrandt. Think we can pass this one off as one? This was copied at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. Alan was extensively trained in traditional academic drawing and painting and is currently accepting portrait commissions. You can see the heavy Rembrandt influence throughout most of the art galleries.

This is an academic life painting from a model. Painted in John Frederick Murray's class at the School of Visual Arts in NYC. John taught the Reilly method which dates back to Jean Leon Gerome at the École des Beaux-Arts in France. John was sought out by top illustrators and painters and he taught several instructors at the School of Visual arts.
