lan’s first professional illustration was for The Savage Sword of Conan #204. Below are illustrations for Marvel Comics covers. Alan became a Conan cover artist for Marvel and worked on Robert E. Howard’s Savage Sword of Conan and Conan Saga comic magazines. Alan has worked for other comic book publishers including Topps, Crossplains Comics, and Personality Comics.
For Marvel Comics, Alan painted covers for Conan and one for the Midnight Sons Unlimited, a team-up of Vengeance (Ghost Rider), Morbius The Living Vampire (Movie coming in 2021), Wildpride, Mordred the Mystic, Dr. Strange, and Werewolf by Night.
In the 90s, painting Conan covers was what every fantasy artist aspired to illustrate. Today, it’s Magic: The Gathering (which Alan painted over 47 cards to date), but in the past it was Conan! Alan followed suit in the steps of some of the biggest names in Fantasy Art that had painted covers for Conan including Frank Frazetta, Boris Vallejo, Ken Kelly, and John Buscema.

Immediately after illustrating for The Savage Sword of Conan, Marvel Comics commissioned Alan to paint another Conan Cover for the Conan Saga series.

The Savage Sword of Conan #204
Alan's first professional illustration ever. Right out of art school, Alan went into the offices of Marvel Comics in NYC with his college portfolio and was hired on the spot for Conan Covers. This is his first.
